Frequently asked questions
Getting started
How do I start using SoberBeing? Download SoberBeing from the App Store, open the app, and walk through onboarding. The whole flow takes about 90 seconds. After onboarding you'll meet your buddy and see your first "day 1."
Do I need an account? No. SoberBeing has no signup, no login, and no cloud account. Everything lives on your iPhone.
Which iPhones does it work on? Any iPhone running iOS 17 or later.
Subscription, free trial, and billing
How does the 7-day free trial work? When you start the free trial, you get full access to SoberBeing immediately. Your Apple ID is charged when the trial ends, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial period ends.
What does it cost after the trial? Two options, both with a 7-day free trial:
- Weekly: €2.99 / week
- Yearly: €39.99 / year (≈ €0.77 / week — best value)
Prices in your local currency are shown in the App at the moment of purchase.
How do I cancel my subscription? Open iPhone Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → SoberBeing → Cancel Subscription. You'll keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Deleting the App does not cancel your subscription — you must cancel through iPhone Settings.
Can I get a refund? Refunds for App Store purchases are handled directly by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and request a refund for SoberBeing. We don't process refunds because we never received the money — Apple did.
I'm being charged but the app says my subscription isn't active. Open SoberBeing → Profile → "Restore purchases." If that doesn't fix it, email psven595@gmail.com with the date of your purchase and the email on your Apple ID.
I had a subscription on my old iPhone. How do I get it back on my new one? Sign in to the new iPhone with the same Apple ID you used to subscribe. In SoberBeing, go to Profile → "Restore purchases." Your subscription will reactivate.
Your data and privacy
Where is my data stored? On your iPhone, in the app's local storage. Nothing leaves your device — no journal entry, no streak, no slip, no "why," no buddy state. Read the full Privacy Policy.
Can I export my data? Not yet. Your data is readable inside the app. A formal export feature is on the roadmap.
How do I delete everything? Two options:
- Inside the app: Profile → "Reset and start over". This wipes every byte of your tracking data.
- Delete the App from your iPhone. This removes the rest. (Cancel your subscription first, since deleting doesn't cancel.)
Do you track me, sell my data, or run ads? No. SoberBeing has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising IDs, no ads, no third-party SDKs other than the subscription provider RevenueCat (which only ever sees an anonymous purchase token — never your name, journal, or anything personal).
Using the app
What happens if I slip up? Log it. Your sober streak counter pauses but your story doesn't reset — slip-ups are recorded honestly without erasing where you've come from. Your buddy's color fades a little with each slip but comes back with care.
What does it mean when my buddy is "fading"? Your buddy's color reflects how you've been engaging. Slip-ups drain color. Coming back to the App and logging consistently brings it back. If you don't open the App for a long time, your buddy can also fade from inactivity — but you can always create a new buddy.
Do you send push notifications? Only if you allow them, and only the daily check-in reminder you configured. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device — there's no push server. You can turn them off any time in Profile or in iPhone Settings → Notifications → SoberBeing.
Does SoberBeing share my information with my doctor / therapist / sponsor / friend? No. SoberBeing is fully private. Nothing is shared with anyone unless you screenshot or copy it yourself.
Crisis and safety
I'm in crisis. What do I do? Please reach out for help right now. Inside the App: Profile → If you need help now. Or call:
- Austria: 112 (emergency) · 142 (Telefonseelsorge)
- Germany: 112 (emergency) · 0800 1110 111 (Telefonseelsorge)

- US: 911 (emergency) · 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) · 1-800-662-4357 (SAMHSA)
SoberBeing is a tracking tool. It is not a crisis service. Please use professional resources when you need real-time human support.
