This Cookie Policy explains how cookies and similar technologies are used on the soberbeing.com website (the "Website"). It does not cover the SoberBeing iOS app — the app does not use cookies, see the Privacy Policy for the app.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember things about your visit — like your theme preference, language, or whether you have already dismissed a banner.
Cookies can also include similar technologies like local storage, session storage, and pixel tags.
What soberbeing.com uses
The default soberbeing.com configuration uses only strictly necessary technologies required for the site to function:
| Technology | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
Theme preference (localStorage) | Remembers whether you chose light or dark mode | Until cleared | Essential |
| Session token (if any forms exist) | Maintains your session within a single browsing visit | End of session | Essential |
Cookie-consent record (localStorage) | Remembers your cookie choices so we don't ask again | 12 months | Essential |
Under Austrian and EU law (TKG §165, ePrivacy Directive Art. 5(3)), strictly necessary technologies do not require consent, but we list them here for transparency.
What we do not use (by default)
The site does not use, unless explicitly listed above:
- Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager / GA4
- Meta (Facebook) Pixel
- Vercel Web Analytics (the personal-data version)
- Plausible, Fathom, Hotjar, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Segment, PostHog
- Advertising or remarketing cookies
- Third-party social media embed cookies (no embedded YouTube, Twitter widgets, etc.)
- Google Fonts loaded from Google's CDN
- reCAPTCHA or any Google-hosted bot-protection service
If any of these are added in the future, this policy will be updated before the tracker becomes active, and a cookie-consent banner will request your opt-in.
Your choices
- Browser settings. Every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies. See instructions for Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge. Blocking essential cookies may cause parts of the Website to behave unexpectedly.
- Cookie banner. If a banner is displayed when you visit, your choice there controls all non-essential cookies and is remembered for 12 months.
- Withdraw consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your cookies for soberbeing.com — the banner will reappear on your next visit.

Note for the website agent: this file describes the default, conservative setup. If you add ANY analytics, advertising, or third-party embed to the site, you MUST update this file with the new tracker, add it to privacy.md, and add a GDPR-compliant cookie banner that blocks the script until consent is granted.
